A man hid inside a Little Rock gas station overnight Tuesday and stole cigarettes and cash, police reported.

Roland Ester, 53, is accused of hiding in a restroom at a Shell station at 5103 Asher Ave. and waiting for the business to close. He then took cigarettes and about $3,000, according to an arrest report.

Police said surveillance cameras recorded the heist, and employees called police when Ester returned to the store about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Ester admitted to burglarizing the gas station, the report states. He was charged with commercial burglary and felony theft of property.

Ester was additionally charged with failure to appear in a separate theft case. Court records show Ester, under his legal name and more than a dozen aliases, has numerous theft and failure-to-appear convictions going to back to 1982, when he was 19.

Other convictions include resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and contempt of court.

Ester appeared Thursday morning in Little Rock District Court and pleaded innocent to the latest charges against him. Judge Alice Lightle set bail at $100,000.

Ester was being held in the Pulaski County jail.
