Leading rider Ricardo Santana Jr. and leading trainer Steve Asmussen teamed up to win the featured eighth race, a 6-furlong optional claiming allowance with an $80,000 purse. Chanteline beat She'sabrees by a length in 1:11.38 and paid $4.80, $3.40 and $3.40. Santana, the three-time defending jockey champion, has 72 victories in 312 starts, 35 more than runnerup Ramon Vazquez. Asmussen, on his way to a seventh training title, has 37 victories, 13 more than Chris Hartman with six racing days remaining.

American Pioneer worked 7 furlongs in 1:28.40 over a fast track Friday morning in preparation for the Grade I $1 million Arkansas Derby on April 16. American Pioneer, a son of Awesome Again, is coming off a 3¾-length maiden victory March 19, about 30 minutes after Cupid won the Rebel Stakes at the same distance in 1:43.84. American Pioneer, trained by Wayne Catalano, won his race in 1:44.46. Catalano said Southern California jockey Rafael Bejarano will ride American Pioneer, a winner of 1 of 2 career starts. ... Thursday was jockey Chris Landeros' final day at Oaklawn as a regular this season, his agent, Jay Fedor said. Landeros is headed to Keeneland, but will return to Oaklawn next Friday to ride Streamline in the Apple Blossom Handicap. Landeros has won 23 races this year at Oaklawn. ... ... Subtle Indian is the 2-1 program favorite for Sunday's Grade III $400,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap. Subtle Indian is trying to become the meet's first four-time winner.
