Fire near Spa City burns private land

A small forest fire broke out Saturday afternoon in Garland County about 5 miles northeast of Hot Springs, according to the Arkansas Forestry Commission.

The Morning Star Fire Department responded first to the flames, then the Arkansas Forestry Commission assisted with three fire bulldozers and four single-engine air tanker planes, said Forestry Commission spokesman Adriana Barnes.

The flames consumed an estimated 60 to 80 acres of private property, but no homes or structures were threatened, Barnes said. Smoke was visible from Arkansas 5 and Arkansas 70 on Saturday afternoon, she said.

By 6 p.m., the fire was completely contained, according to the Forestry Commission.
