Tyson proposes new $136M processing plant in Northwest Arkansas

Springdale-based Tyson Foods Inc. is proposing a new $136 million processing plant near an existing poultry operation in Northwest Arkansas.

Tyson officials announced the proposed 200,000-square-foot plant in Green Forest, which would create about 85 jobs, during a Wednesday meeting of the Carroll County Quorum Court's finance committee.

It is contingent on tax abatements from the Carroll County Quorum Court as well as sales and use tax credits from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, the company said in a news release.

"This is the first new plant construction project Tyson Foods has proposed to build in a number of years, and we’re hopeful we can partner with Carroll County and the AEDC to invest in our home state,” said Noel White, president of poultry at Tyson, in a statement.

Construction would begin as early as this summer across the street from its existing plant in Green Forest on Tyson Drive, with completion sought by late 2017, according to Tyson.
