ARKANSAS A LA CARTE

Auction and nibble-fest put group $80,000 closer to goal

From sushi to barbecue, pies to popsicles, guests at Arkansas a la Carte noshed on a variety of goodies from area restaurants April 7 in the Children's Hall at Arkansas Children's Hospital. The fundraiser was hosted by the hospital's auxiliary.

The hall was decorated for springtime with bouquets of spring flowers on cocktail tables, white lights draped across the hall's tall ceilings and walls lined with white fabric. Guests listened to music by Travis Caudell as they bid on silent auction items and filled their plates with treats.

On one side of the room was a tree with paper blossoms and leaves. Attendees could buy flowers or foliage in honor of a loved one, write their name on the paper and hang it on the tree. The unique fundraiser was called the Giving Tree and the leaves and flowers will be used in an art project for the hospital.

About 450 guests helped raise more than $80,000 toward the auxiliary's $1 million pledge to the hospital. Kimberly Bowman was event chairman.
