Spring snowstorm menaces two states

DENVER — A spring snowstorm expected to dump up to several feet of snow along the eastern foothills of Colorado and Wyoming is getting a late start, but the National Weather Service said snow was expected to pile up through today.

Jim Kalina of the National Weather Service in Boulder and Brian Chapman of the National Weather Service in Cheyenne said Saturday that rain was changing to snow and temperatures were falling, which could bring heavy, wet snow over the next two days.

Up to 2 feet of snow was reported between Denver and the Continental Divide on Saturday.

Airlines at Denver International Airport canceled about 840 flights Saturday.

Meanwhile, heavy rain on the Eastern Plains prompted flood warnings in eastern Colorado, but no severe damage was reported.
