Storms moving in could bring heavy rain throughout week, forecasters say

A series of showers and thunderstorms moving into Arkansas on Tuesday are not expected to produce damaging winds, but increasingly heavy rains may cause flash flooding through Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service's North Little Rock office issued a hazardous weather outlook for central and western Arkansas starting Tuesday, and counties surrounding Texarkana were placed under a flash flood watch.

Rain was expected to begin Monday across the western half of the state.

The strongest storms were expected Wednesday afternoon, when small hail and stronger wind gusts are possible, the weather service said in a statement.

A total of 4 inches of rain could fall in southwest Arkansas by Thursday night, according to the weather service.
