A Newport man was taken into custody Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the buttocks and threatened to kill her if she testified against him at an coming trial for domestic violence, authorities said.

Eric Dinwiddie, 28, surrendered to police Tuesday night and is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Jackson County jail. He is being charged with kidnapping, second-degree domestic battery and intimidating a witness, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

A woman told police that Dinwiddie approached her while she was walking down Dewey Street and forced her into an abandoned home at knifepoint, Lt. Patrick Weatherford said. He threatened to kill her family, then took her to another location, where the stabbing occurred, police said.

Authorities said she escaped on foot and returned to her home to report the crime at about 8:45 p.m.
