Police: Arkansas teen shot in face

A 15-year-old boy suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the face Tuesday after a man demanding money opened fire, a spokesman for the Fort Smith Police Department said.

The boy was walking from his home in the 1800 block of Churchill Road to a friend's house near Jenny Lind Road and South R Street when he was stopped by a man in a passing car. The man pointed a gun at the boy and demanded money, according to a news release from the police department.

Sgt. Daniel Grubbs said the boy fled on foot but was pursued and shot.

The boy said he walked to the hospital, but surveillance footage showed he was dropped off in a dark-colored car at 11:30 p.m., Grubbs said.

The teen was treated at Sparks Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Smith Police Department at (479) 709-5100.
