VANDERBILT 8, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 6

No. 4 Vanderbilt (29-8) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie and held on to defeat Central Arkansas (15-20) at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn.

Tyler Campbell hit an RBI single to score Walker Grisnanti, giving the Commodores a 7-6 lead with one out. Connor Kaiser’s sacrifice fly scored Julian Infante to make it 8-6.

UCA had the go-ahead run at the plate after Brandon Montalvo and Justin McCarty reached on singles. But Austin White struck out swinging to end the game.

Montalvo led the Bears with three hits and three RBI. Tyler Langley had two hits, including an RBI double. Derek Beier (3-1) took the loss for UCA after allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

The Bears led 3-0 in the third inning thanks to Langley’s RBI double and Montalvo’s two-run double. But Vanderbilt scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead.

UCA tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth on RBI singles from Montalvo and Logan Preston. The Commodores regained the lead at 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth with Jeren Kendall’s sacrifice fly. In the top of the seventh inning, UCA tied the game again when Brooks Balisterri scored on a wild pitch by Collin Snider. Montalvo had struck out but reached first on the wild pitch, allowing Balisterri to score from third base.

ARKANSAS STATE 7, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 1

Peyton Culbertson pitched six innings, Tanner Ring drove in three runs and Arkansas State (15-21) defeated Southern Illinois (21-16-1) on Tuesday at Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale, Ill.

Culbertson allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings. He struck out five and walked one. Tanner Kirby didn’t allow a hit in 3 innings with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts to earn his first save.

Ring and Garrett Rucker each had three hits. Joe Schrimpf and Ty White also had two hits apiece.

UAPB 7, ALCORN STATE 3

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (14-19) scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning and defeated Alcorn State (12-22) in a nonconference game in Lorman, Miss.

UAPB trailed 2-1 entering the sixth inning. Jordan Knox led off the inning with a double to right field. Aderly Perez singled, and Joshua Williams hit a RBI single to center field to score Knox, tying the game at 2-2. After Dontrell Brown hit into a fielder’s choice, Michael Bradley hit a two-run double, scoring Perez and Brown for a 4-2 lead.

Two batters later, Roberto Colon’s bunt single scored Bradley to make it 5-2. Jaqueese Moore singled to left field, which brought home Jordan Haas and Colon to extend UAPB’s lead to 7-2.

Alcorn State scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but that was it for the Braves.
