Earle sophomore quarterback-linebacker Gerry Bohanon is starting to receive interest from colleges, but Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney Jr. has known about him since the eight grade.

“That’s my guy, he’s been showing interest since I was young,” Bohanon said.

Bohanon, 6-4, 215 pounds threw for 1,763 yards and rushed for 964 yards in eight games this past season while also recording 46 tackles and 9 sacks in five games at defensive end. He and several other prospects visited Arkansas on Saturday.

He was impressed with Coach Bret Bielema.

“I enjoyed the way the team practiced and how Coach B treated the team and treated me while I was down there,” Bohanon said. “I just enjoyed the campus. Everything was nice down there.”

Bielema invited him to one of the summer camps.

“He treated me really like he wanted me to come down,” Bohanon said. “He said he wanted to to come to camp and try at quarterback and a little receiver work, linebacker and some safety at the camp in June.”

As a freshman, Bohanon passed for 1,800 yards and rushed for 1,500 yards. Earle Coach Albert Coleman is a special talent with a great attitude.

“He’s one of a kind In my football playing days and I’m going back to Little League to junior high to high school and playing college ball at UCA, “ Coleman said. “I haven’t seen kid with that type of a work ethic.”

“He’s on a constant go working out, moving, trying to develop and trying to get his team better. He is without a doubt a great talent, a great kid, a great student in the classroom.”

Bohanon, who has 3.7 grade point average, said good grades are a must.

“I plan to get it up to a 4.0,” he said. “My family is extremely strict about education.”

He also plans to attend camps at Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, TCU, and maybe Memphis.

“There’s a few more I can’t think of right now,” Bohanon said.

Coleman believes Bohanon can play quarterback in college along with several other positions.

“There’s no doubt on the next level he would be able to play the position the coach would put him at,” Coleman said. “He’s as aggressive as he needs to be at linebacker or defensive end. He would probably have some of the best hands on the team at wide receiver or tight end.”

Bohanon’s doctor told him he could grow another inch or two. He would embrace the opportunity to pay for the Razorbacks.

“I would be more than happy to be playing for my home state because I grew up in Arkansas,” Bohanon said.
