Man killed in crash after losing control of car on wet Arkansas road

A 26-year-old Mississippi man was killed after losing control of his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu and driving into the opposite lane, colliding with another vehicle on Highway 49 in Phillips County on Thursday, according to a state police report.

The report said Corey Brassell, on Jonestown, Miss., was killed in the wreck around 6:45 a.m. The driver of the oncoming vehicle, Yvonne Kinchen, 45, of Helena-West Helena, was hurt in the crash, state police said.

Brassell was headed north on the highway near the Mississippi Bridge when his car entered the southbound lane and was struck on the left side by Kinchen's 2013 Nissan Rogue, according to the report.

Police described road conditions at the time of the crash as wet and rainy.

It was the 137th fatality on Arkansas roads in 2016, according to preliminary state police records.
