Struck with rock, robbed in downtown Little Rock, man says

A man was hospitalized after he was beaten with a rock and robbed while walking to work Tuesday in downtown Little Rock, police reported.

Officers were called about 6:24 a.m. to 309 S. State St. Nelson Rolong, 64, said he was walking to work when a man approached him from behind, demanded money and struck him in the head several times with a rock, according to a police report. The man took Rolong's wallet and cellphone, then ran off.

Rolong was taken to Baptist Health Hospital in Little Rock. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The robber is described as black, cleanshaven, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds and between the ages of 30 and 35. He wore a black hooded shirt and gray pants.

Police searched the area but made no arrests.
