5 killed in accidents on Arkansas roads

Two 62-year-olds were among several people killed in car accidents across the state this week, according to the Arkansas State Police.

At 9:07 a.m. Wednesday, 62-year-old Wanda Sullivant of El Dorado was traveling east on U.S. 82B in El Dorado when she crossed the centerline and struck a 2015 Toyota that was westbound, according to a state police report.

Sullivant was later pronounced dead at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado. The driver of the Toyota, Bruce Gilmore, 52, and his passenger Karen Gilmore, 53, both of El Dorado, were injured and taken to the same hospital.

It was foggy and roads were wet at the time of the accident, according to the report.

Curtis Smith, 62, of Waldo died Wednesday about 11:30 p.m. after his 2002 Chevrolet Malibu left the roadway on Arkansas 98 in Columbia County, struck a guardrail and overturned into a creek. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a state police report.

Conditions at the time of the accident were foggy, but roads were dry, according to the report.

On Thursday about 6:45 a.m., 26-year-old Corey Brassell of Jonestown, Miss., was killed after he lost control of his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu while traveling north on Arkansas 49 in Phillips County.

Brassell traveled into the southbound lane, and his vehicle was struck in the left side by a 2013 Nissan, according to a state police report.

The driver of the other vehicle, Yvonne Kinchen, 45, of West Helena was injured and taken to Merit Health Northwest Mississippi Hospital in Clarksdale, Miss.

It was rainy and roads were wet at the time of the crash, according to the report.

A 68-year-old Lonsdale woman was killed about 10:30 a.m. Thursday when her 2008 Chevrolet ran off the road and struck a tree in Saline County.

Sue Hogue was traveling east on Ziegler Road, between Hot Springs Village and Benton, when her vehicle left the road. Road conditions were clear and dry, according to the report.

State police also reported Thursday that a Cave City woman was killed in an accident Monday in Independence County.

Christina Buchanan, 32, was driving south on U.S. 167 when a northbound vehicle crossed the centerline and struck her vehicle head-on. A youth who was in the vehicle with Buchanan was injured and taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. The youth was not named in the state police report.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of the crash, according to the report.
