Capt. Gary Crain with university police said the time gap poses some challenges to investigators, but police will interview those involved. He described the report as that of an acquaintance rape that took place in November 2013 at the Maple Hill West Residence Hall.

Rape is a Class Y felony in Arkansas with a statute of limitation of six years from the time any crime is committed, Crain said. Under Arkansas law, the statute of limitation for rape is eliminated if evidence provides a DNA profile of the perpetrator.

The investigation "is not as challenging as it could be, because we will have the identity of the acquaintance as opposed to not knowing who this person is," Crain said. He said he didn't know if the acquaintance in the report remains enrolled at UA but said he was a student in November 2013.
