Old Wire to be closed in Lowell

SPRINGDALE -- Construction work for the new location of Arkansas 265 will require a temporary detour and close Old Wire Road in Lowell to through traffic Monday, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Temporary barricades will restrict through traffic on Old Wire Road, beginning at Apple Blossom Avenue and extending to McClure Avenue. The Old Wire Road closing is needed to construct pipe crossings on Arkansas 265.

Advance warning signs will be placed to notify approaching traffic of the closure on Apple Blossom, Lincoln Street, McClure Avenue and Old Wire Road. Construction of the pipe crossings is estimated to take a couple of weeks, weather permitting.

Crossland Construction of Columbus, Kan., was awarded the contract at $15.4 million. The project is to construct about four miles of a new three-lane Arkansas 265 from Pleasant Grove Road to Arkansas 264, south of Rogers and east of Lowell.

Arkansas 265 eventually will provide a principal north and south corridor on the eastern side of the metro area. Construction of this portion of the road is estimated to be complete by winter of 2017.
