Intruder wakes woman; man arrested

A Garland County man accused of breaking into a 77-year-old woman's home Friday morning was arrested after being found bloodied and lying facedown at a nearby boat dock, authorities said.

In a statement Friday afternoon, the Garland County sheriff's office said the homeowner in the 600 block of Farr Shores Drive in Hot Springs was awakened by her security system and she quickly encountered an intruder.

The man pushed the homeowner out of his way and broke out a window in her bedroom to flee, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

He repeatedly told the homeowner that someone was trying to kill him, the release said.

About 9 a.m., the sheriff's office was called again to the area, this time by a witness who saw a man, identified as Marcus Calhoun, 20, of Hot Springs bleeding at the boat dock. Calhoun was transported to a hospital and later identified by the homeowner as the intruder.

He is charged with residential burglary and remained Saturday at the Garland County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond, records show.

Calhoun is to appear May 2 in Garland County District Court.
