EL DORADO -- Patrick Rogers of El Dorado has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the killing of an 11-year-old child.
On July 3, 2015, Comesico Pumphrey was struck with a stray bullet that traveled nearly a quarter of a mile as Rogers and another man, Shaquille Green of El Dorado, fired at each other during a disagreement, according to the El Dorado Police Department.
The child's death led to charges of capital murder for Rogers, Green and two others -- Brandon Dawson and Laray Malone.
Judge Hamilton Singleton accepted a plea agreement from Rogers on March 24, which reduced the capital murder charge to first degree murder. Rogers also entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession of a firearm by certain persons.
On Thursday, Singleton sentenced Rogers to 30 years in prison on the first-degree murder charge and 12 years on the firearm charge. The two sentences will run concurrently.
Dawson and Malone's capital murder trials are set to begin Monday.
