Much of Arkansas is forecast to have several days of rain this week and severe storms are possible Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service's office in North Little Rock issued a hazardous weather outlook for the state Monday ahead of a large cold front meteorologists said would move in from the plains Tuesday.

Michael Brown, a meteorologist with the weather service, said Northwest Arkansas would begin to see storms moving in shortly after midnight Tuesday. Later Wednesday, much of the state will be at risk for damaging winds, thunderstorms and hail, with a few brief tornadoes possible, according to the weather service alert.

Brown said the front will move out of the state by Wednesday night before returning on Thursday, bringing with it the possibility for more storms through Friday.

The weather service forecasts said additional fronts may move through during the weekend, adding the chance for additional storms.

In a graphic posted to its website, the weather service indicated that parts of the Ouachita Mountains could receive up to 5 inches of rain though Saturday. Central Arkansas was expected to get about 3 to 4 inches in that span.
