The trial of a man charged with killing a pedestrian as he fled police in Little Rock was pushed back several months after lawyers said Monday that a witness was not available for the original May date.

Jordan Vandenberghe was in Pulaski County Circuit Court on Monday for a hearing ahead of his first-degree murder trial, which had been set to start May 25. Judge Leon Johnson and lawyers agreed to set a new trial date of Sept. 28.

No other motions were filed for the defense or prosecution.

Vandenberghe's lawyer, Leslie Borgognoni, said a blood-testing expert scheduled to testify was not available for the May trial.

Vandenberghe was arrested after a police chase in September that ended when a stolen Nissan Maxima police say that the 24-year-old was driving fatally struck Trendia Horton, who was jogging with her daughter. Earlier this year, additional charges of heroin possession were added to his case.
