Drillers top Travs with 4-run fourth

The Tulsa Drillers scored four runs in the fourth inning to beat the Arkansas Travelers 4-3 in front of an announced crowd of 3,616 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa on Monday night.

Trailing 1-0 going into the fourth inning, Tulsa’s Brandon Trinkwon and Alex Verdugo led off with walks off Travs starter Victor Alcantara.

A wild pitch moved Trinkwon and Verdugo to second and third. Kyle Farmer reached on a fielding error by Travelers third baseman Sherman Johnson, which allowed Trinkwon to tie the game at 1-1. After Lars Anderson and Jacob Scavuzzo struck out, Willie Calhoun hit a three-run home run to right field on a 3-2 pitch to put the Drillers ahead 4-1.

The Travelers cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth inning. After Anthony Bemboom and Anthony Phillips led off with walks, Bo Way’s RBI single made it 4-2. Johnson followed with a single to right field to score Phillips.

The Travelers missed a chance to take the lead in the sixth when they left two runners on base. Alex Yarbrough singled through the shortstop hole off reliever Rob Rogers.

With two outs, Bemboom walked, but Phillips struck out swinging to end the inning. The Travs took a 1-0 lead in the second when Stephen McGee’s sacrifice fly scored Eric Aguilera.

Alcantara (1-2) took the loss, allowing 4 runs, 1 earned, on 4 hits in 3 2/3 innings with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Chris Anderson (2-1) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 5 innings with 2 strikeouts and 6 walks. Caleb Dirks pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.
