FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas scored five runs in its final three innings at the plate and came back to beat No. 22 Oklahoma State 7-6 Tuesday at Baum Stadium.
The Razorbacks (25-16) overcame a three-run deficit to split the season series with the Cowboys. Oklahoma State beat Arkansas 5-4 last month.
Carson Shaddy's RBI triple gave the Razorbacks a 6-5 lead in the eighth inning. Shaddy scored to extend the lead to 7-5 on a sacrifice fly by Luke Bonfield.
Oklahoma State (25-15) pulled within one run on Gary Benge's two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth. Arkansas freshman Blaine Knight came out of the bullpen to record the final out on a pop-up into foul territory by Colin Simpson.
After the Cowboys scored a an error-aided run in the top of the first, Arkansas took a 2-1 lead on Luke Bonfield's two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. The Razorbacks threatened to score more, but stranded the bases loaded to end the first.
Oklahoma State tied the game on Donnie Walton's solo home run in the top of the second and took a 3-2 lead on Collin Theroux's RBI double in the third.
Theroux added a two-run home run off Arkansas reliever Weston Rogers in the sixth to give the Cowboys a 5-2 lead.
Arkansas began its comeback by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth. The Razorbacks put their first three batters on base, pulled within 5-3 on Eric Cole's RBI single and within 5-4 on an RBI groundout by Clark Eagan.
The Razorbacks tied the game 5-5 in the seventh when Rick Nomura singled to score Bonfield.
Arkansas used seven pitchers in the game. James Teague pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the win, while Knight recorded his first save. Freshman Isaiah Campbell allowed two earned runs in a 3 1/3-inning start.
Michael Mertz gave up two runs on four hits in a three-inning start for the Cowboys. Jake Cowan was charged with the loss after giving up the two runs in the eighth.
Arkansas is scheduled to play again Friday against No. 2 Texas A&M at Baum Stadium.
