Arkansas 265 work shuts Lowell route

Construction on the new Arkansas 265 will require a temporary detour and closure of Old Wire Road in Lowell to through traffic beginning today, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department said.

Temporary barricades will restrict through traffic off Old Wire, beginning at Apple Blossom Avenue and extending to McClure Avenue. The Old Wire Road closure is needed to construct the pipe crossings on Arkansas 265 and represents a slight revision to the first proposed detour route, the department said.

Warning signs will be placed on Apple Blossom, U.S. 71B, McClure and Old Wire to notify approaching traffic of the closure. Construction of the pipe crossings is estimated to take a couple of weeks, weather permitting, the department said.

Areas beyond the barricades are an active work zone, and moving or driving around barricades places motorists in the work zone, affecting the safety of motorists and workers alike, the department said.

The work is part of a $15.4 million project to build about 3 miles of the three-lane Arkansas 265 from Pleasant Grove Road to Arkansas 264 south of Rogers and east of Lowell. Several Arkansas 265 projects will provide a principal north and south corridor in eastern Northwest Arkansas. Construction of this portion is estimated to be completed by winter 2017, the department said.
