DHS to investigate sex-assault report

JONESBORO -- Police have turned their investigation of an 8-year-old boy accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy over to the state Department of Human Services' Children and Family Services Division, authorities said.

Jonesboro police said a parent reported her 7-year-old son had been assaulted by an 8-year-old boy while he was walking in woods near his home April 19. According to officer Jeremy Smith's report, the 7-year-old said the 8-year-old pulled down his pants and then put his genitals in the younger boy's mouth.

Smith later questioned the older boy and reported the boy admitted "something bad" happened in the woods. The older boy's mother told Smith her son had been in therapy because he had been molested.

The case was forwarded to the state's Human Services Department, Smith said.
