Travs fall to Drillers in 11 innings

The Tulsa Drillers scored on a throwing error by Arkansas Travelers reliever D.J. Johnson in the bottom of the 11th inning and won 5-4 on Thursday night at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.

Chase De Jong bunted to the pitcher's mound, where Johnson (0-1) attempted to throw De Jong out at first. But his throw went past first baseman Cal Towey, allowing Drew Maggi to score from second base to win the game.

Maggi began the Drillers' rally in the 11th inning with a base hit to center field. He was sacrificed over to second base by Brandon Trinkwon. Johnson then intentionally walked Willie Calhoun to bring De Jong to the plate.

The Travs trailed 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning. But Chad Hinshaw, who went 2 for 4, hit his first home run of the season on a 2-0 pitch from Drillers reliever Jordan Schafer to tie the game at 4-4.

Arkansas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Sherman Johnson's leadoff home run, his second of the season. Tulsa responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-1 lead.

The Travs scored two runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 3-3. Hinshaw hit an RBI triple and Alex Yarbrough's sacrifice fly scored Hinshaw. But the Drillers took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the inning as Maggi was hit by a pitch, allowing Jacob Scavuzzo to score.
