20-year-old killed in shooting at Little Rock convenience store; employee arrested

Little Rock police have identified the victim and suspect in Monday’s early morning homicide in west Little Rock.

In a release, police said they found 20-year-old Jarvis Garner of Little Rock lying on the ground near the gas pumps at the EZ Mart at 11911 Mara Lynn Road — the intersection of Mara Lynn and Bowman roads. Garner had sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

When officers arrived, they identified 28-year-old Nicholas Beasley of Little Rock as the shooter, the release said. Police said Beasley, an EZ Mart employee, confronted Garner outside, asking him to leave when the shooting occurred.

Lt. Steve McClanahan, a spokesman for Little Rock police, said officers were called at 4:09 a.m. Police took Beasley and a witness, Garner’s girlfriend, to be questioned after the shooting, the release said.

Beasley was charged with first-degree murder and taken to the Pulaski County jail, where he was processed at 9:46 a.m. He is being held without bond.

Garner's death was Little Rock's 19th homicide of 2016.

Little Rock police say one person has died after officers were called to a shooting early Monday morning outside a convenience store.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Steven McClanahan said officers were called at 4:09 a.m. to the EZ Mart at 11911 Mara Lynn Road to investigate a shooting. The store and gas station is at the intersection of Mara Lynn and Bowman roads.

A 20-year-old man was found outside the business with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died.

McClanahan said the clerk at the store was the shooter and is being questioned. It wasn't immediately clear what led up to the shooting, though McClanahan said police do not believe it was a robbery.

The death marks the 19th homicide of the year so far in Little Rock.
