Arkansas Index dips 2.25; closes 340.02

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 2.25 to 340.02 Monday.

"The major averages closed mixed as a choppy session ushered in the first trading day of August," said Bob Williams, senior vice president and managing director of Simmons First Investment Group Inc. in Little Rock.

Total volume for the index was 18.5 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
