The Tyson family and Tyson Foods Inc. are donating $15 million for the construction of the Arkansas Children's Northwest hospital, according to a news release issued Tuesday by Tyson and the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation.

The gift will establish the Tyson Family Tower at the Springdale hospital.

"The Tyson Family and Tyson Foods have a long history of investing in the future of Springdale and Northwest Arkansas, John H. Tyson, chairman of the Tyson board, said in the news release. "We're proud to continue that legacy with this gift to Arkansas Children's Northwest."

In August 2015, Arkansas Children’s, Inc. announced plans to build a freestanding children’s hospital in Springdale on land donated by Robin and Gary George, Cathy and David Evans and their families. Plans for Arkansas Children’s Northwest include 233,613 square feet of inpatient beds, emergency care, diagnostic services and clinical space.

The campus will also include walking trails, gardens and a helipad and refueling station.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $427.7 million over the next five years, according to the news release.
