Arkansan killed, 2 hurt in after van drives into ditch

One Arkansan is dead and two others are injured after a single-vehicle crash in Chicot County early Wednesday.

Steven James, 60, of Dumas was driving a 2015 Chevrolet van south on U.S. 65 at 6:20 a.m. when the van left the road and went into a ditch, Arkansas State Police said. The van continued for a short distance in the ditch before colliding with a deep embankment and culvert.

James died in the crash, and his two passengers — Harold Kilburn, 59, of Mountainburg and David Carter, 45, of Dumas — were hurt. Police said they were taken to McGehee-Desha County Hospital and Delta Regional Hospital in Greenville, Miss.

James was the 303rd death on Arkansas roads in 2016, according to preliminary data. Police listed the conditions as clear and dry when the wreck occurred.
