PHOTOS, VIDEO: Interstate 440 reopens after truck overturns, backs up traffic

An overturned truck caused traffic to back up for several miles on Interstate 440 in Little Rock before the highway reopened early Thursday afternoon.

An Arkansas State Police spokesman said the wreck happened before 8:45 a.m. on the eastbound highway near Lindsey Road. The truck hit a concrete barrier in a construction area and then overturned, troopers said at the scene.

Eastbound lanes were completely blocked until around 12:15 p.m., when they reopened, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation said on Twitter. Traffic for much of the morning was exiting at Lindsey Road and then getting back on the highway to avoid the wreck scene.

Traffic in the eastbound lanes was backed up nearly to Interstate 30 at one point after 10 a.m.. Westbound traffic was also slow through the area.

Authorities on scene said the driver of the truck and a passenger who both taken to the hospital, though neither was thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
