Arkansas man dies after pickup hits embankment, overturns, state police say

A Rogers man died after losing control of his pickup Monday night on a highway in Washington County, according to Arkansas State Police.

In a preliminary report, authorities said the single-vehicle crash occurred about 8 p.m. when Antonio Garduno, 40, was traveling southbound on Arkansas 71 north of Winslow in a 2007 Ford F-250.

Police said Garduno attempted to steer his pickup back on the highway after failing to negotiate a curve, causing the Ford to travel across both lanes, strike an embankment and overturn.

A passenger in the pickup, 22-year-old Moises Garduno of Rogers, was injured in the crash, authorities said. He was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, according to the report. He was in serious condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon, said Terry Fox, hospital spokesman.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear and dry.

Antonio Garduno's death was the 313th reported on an Arkansas road so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
