Greenwood police have found their K-9 officer who went missing Wednesday during the shooting that resulted in the death of a Sebastian County sheriff’s deputy.

In a Facebook post, the department said the dog had been shot twice and that there were entrance and exit wounds from both bullets. A veterinarian's X-rays showed some bullet fragments and that one of the shots was nearly fatal.

Kristin Faulkenberry, a spokesman for Greenwood police, said the dog, Kina, “was up and walking” when searchers found her Friday morning near where the shooting took place.

Officer Dennis Wisner, Kina’s handler, was with her after she was found, Faulkenberry said. In its Facebook post, police said she would receive fluids to ease dehydration. Faulkenberry said the department was relieved to find Kina after searching for more than a day and a half.

Kina was injured in the Wednesday afternoon shooting that killed Sebastian County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Cooper and injured Hackett Police Chief Darrell Spells. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that Kina was shot and ran away from the standoff at 4722 Arkansas 253 on Wednesday.

The accused shooter, Billy Monroe Jones, 34, is being held at the Crawford County jail without bail.

Services for Cooper will be held Tuesday at the Community Bible Church in Fort Smith at 10 a.m. He died in a Fort Smith hospital Wednesday afternoon from a gunshot wound to his neck.
