Migration Trails Program

BATESVILLE — The Independence County Library, 368 E. Main St., will continue its genealogy presentations at 3 p.m. with Mary Cooper Miller, president of the Batesville Genealogical Society. Scholarship Application Deadline

SEARCY — The deadline is Monday to apply for White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Inc. fall 2016 scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to White County single parents who have minor children and are pursuing postsecondary education in order to achieve skilled employment. Adult Painting Class

USDA Commodities Distribution

LONOKE COUNTY — The Central Arkansas Development Council will distribute U.S. Department of Agriculture commodities beginning at 9 a.m. in Lonoke County. Food items may include cranberry juice, apple juice, apricots, pears, raisins, carrots, spinach, creamed corn, mushroom soup, black-eyed peas and salmon. Commodities will be distributed at Austin City Hall, Cabot Church of Christ at 500 N. Second St., the Ward Chamber of Commerce and the Woodlawn Community Center. Twelve Angry Women Auditions

SEARCY — Auditions for Twelve Angry Women will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at Center on the Square, 219 W. Arch St. The play, by Reginald Rose and adapted by Sherman Sergel, is directed by David Goble. The cast includes women ages 18 to 75. Auditioners need to prepare a memorized dramatic monologue and will be asked to read scenes from the play. Performance dates are Oct. 7-9, 14-16 and 21-23.

Friday Night Bingo

HEBER SPRINGS — Friday Night Bingo takes place each week at the American Legion Hall, 49 Park Road. Doors open at 5:30 for bonanzas, and regular play starts at 6:30 p.m. Food is available.

Kids’ Art Exhibition

BATESVILLE — Kindergartners through sixth-graders created art at the Batesville Area Arts Council’s Summer Workshops for Kids, where they learned a variety of art techniques with instructor Leia Parks. The students’ work is now featured in a culminating exhibition at the BAAC Gallery on Main, 226 E. Main St., through Saturday. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Nixon Library Schedule Update

JACKSONVILLE — The Nixon Library, 703 W. Main St., usually takes a short break from children’s programming after Summer Reading Club. This year, the break has begun, and children’s programming will start again on Aug. 22. The Nixon Library’s Food for Good program times will change. The lunches have ended, and Snack and Supper will begin Monday. Times will be as follows: a snack from 3:45-4:15 p.m., followed by supper from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for ages 3 to 18. For more information, call the library at (501) 457-5038.

Adult Activity Time

Open-Mic Event

FAIRFIELD BAY — An open-mic music event takes place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. the second and third Thursdays of each month at the Fairfield Bay Conference Center. Third Thursday Farmers Market

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Third Thursday Farmers Market will be open from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 18, Sept. 15 and Oct. 20 in the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center Courtyard, 130 Village Lane. The market features plants, produce and herbs.

Cabot Lions Club Meetings

CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Kingpin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Club members provide children with eyeglasses, offer food for seniors and are among the first to respond when disaster strikes. All are invited to attend the meetings.

Beginner’s Crochet Workshop

POWHATAN — A Beginner’s Crochet Workshop will be presented from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Courthouse at Powhatan Historic State Park. Participants will learn the basic crochet stitches needed to get started making handmade clothing, gifts and household items. CABOT — The Lonoke County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 29 in the Eaton Room of Cabot United Methodist Church, 2003 S. History of Performance Art and Practice

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Ozarka College in Mountain View will offer an eight-week Continuing Education course titled History of Performance Art and Practice, with instructor John Chiaromonte, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 8 through Oct. 26. The course will include readings, videos of artists’ works and discussion. Students will be engaged in exercises to prepare them to create and perform their own performance-art pieces. Gridiron Gala

BATESVILLE — Lyon College will present its first Gridiron Gala, an auction and fundraiser, at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 in Edwards Commons at Lyon College, 2300 Highland Road. The event will raise money for scholarships for Lyon College students. The gala will feature a gourmet dinner, cocktails, a dance with live music, and silent and live auctions. Golf Tournament

HEBER SPRINGS — The Rotary Club of Heber Springs will host its annual Scholarship Four-Person-Scramble Golf Tournament on Sept. 9 at the Red Apple Inn and Country Club. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. There will be prizes for closest to the hole on all par 3s. Funds raised will provide scholarships to 2017 graduating seniors. Heber Springs Dulcimer Day

HEBER SPRINGS — The second annual Heber Springs Dulcimer Day will take place Oct. 8 in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 201 N. Fourth St. The one-day workshop offers beginner and intermediate classes for mountain-dulcimer players. The instructor for beginners will be Wayne Randolph, and the instructor for intermediates will be Lee Cagle. The cost is $20 per person for two sessions: 9-11 a.m. and 1-3.p.m. A limited number of loaner dulcimers will be available.
