CURIOSITY REVEALED

Eight years worth of art shown to exhibitgoers

The work of artist Sandra Sell was the focus of the most recent installment of Thea Foundation's The Art Department. The opening reception for the exhibit, "Curiosity Revealed," was Aug. 5 at the foundation in downtown Argenta.

During the reception guests could meet the artist and hear music by Bonnie Montgomery and enjoy beer, wine and a table full of heavy hors d'oeuvres by Ben E. Keith.

The colorful artwork included paintings, sculptures and assemblages created over an eight-year period. Sell is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and has recently worked as an apprentice to sculptor Robyn Horn. The exhibit will be at the North Little Rock gallery through the end of August.

Afterward, Sell plans to burn some of the works, so this is the only time the public will be able to see them.

She says burning the pieces will be cathartic. "Not every piece of art is designed to last a lifetime."

The pieces she plans to burn include, Hiding Place, Nesting Development and Force of Nature and are made with paper, vine and wooden chairs or doors. "Once the piece is created, mulled over and shown, it has served its purpose," she explains.

The Art Department is a series of quarterly exhibits featuring Arkansas artists at the Thea Foundation.
