Little Rock Kroger security guard in critical condition after beating, police say

Little Rock police said two assailants beat a security guard at a local grocery store Saturday night.

Reginald Young, 58, who works as a security guard at the Kroger at 6420 Colonel Glenn Road, was in critical condition after he was hit repeatedly, police said.

According to a police report, Young, found one of the two "concealing merchandise on his person" in one of the store's aisles before 7:30 p.m. He approached the man, who said he didn't want to talk to him. When Young forced him to the ground, he told Young he would leave the store and not cause any more trouble, according to the report. Police said Young then escorted him out of the store.

That man met another man near the cash registers as Young was leading him outside. Once they got outside, Young told police that the first turned around and punched him in the face. The two men then repeatedly hit Young, police said.

Young told police he thought he was hit by another object, not just fists. The store manager gave video of the attack to police.

The responding officer said Young was bleeding and had a swollen nose and left eye. Young told police he saw the two men, both black, walk into the Alexander Apartments east of the store.
