The Doobie Brothers

WEDNESDAY

Journey, et al.

Journey and the Doobie Brothers, with special guest Dave Mason, on their San Francisco Fest 2016 tour, will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday at North Little Rock's Verizon Arena.

Tickets are $53.50-$119. There's an eight-ticket limit. Call (800) 745-3000 or visit the website, ticketmaster.com or LiveNation.com.

The name of the tour reflects that the two headline groups helped define the so-called "San Francisco Sound."

Journey -- Neal Schon (founding member and lead guitarist), original member Ross Valory (bass) and longtime members Jonathan Cain (keyboards) and Arnel Pineda (lead singer) -- are welcoming back drummer Steve Smith, the first time he has performed with the band since 1998.

For this tour, the Doobie Brothers -- Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons (founding members, vocals/guitar) and longtime member John McFee (guitars/strings/vocals) -- are adding Little Feat co-founder Bill Payne.

Capra propaganda

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen Frank Capra's 1945 propaganda film Here Is Germany as part of its Movies at MacArthur series, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Capra created a set of films under the banner of "Why We Fight" for the U.S. government during World War II. The intent was to show Here Is Germany to American troops participating in the invasion and occupation of the nation at the end of the war.

Admission, popcorn and beverages are free. Call (501) 376-4602 or visit the website, arkmilitaryheritage.com.

AUDITIONS

Children's choir

Voices of Central Arkansas Choir, with three component vocal ensembles -- Choristers, Concert Choir and High School Choir -- will hold auditions for students in grades 3-12 for its 2016-2017 season, 3:30-6 p.m. Aug. 23-24 in Room 312A, Snow Fine Arts Center, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. No previous experience is required; auditioners for Choristers or Concert Choir will be asked to match pitch, demonstrate their vocal range and perform a familiar tune (such as "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"). Auditioners for High School Choir will also be asked to prepare and sing a short piece, approximately two minutes long. Additional information is available at vocasings.com.
