WALLY HALL: Injured Hogs, changes at The Buzz and Moore

Bret Bielema and the Arkansas Razorbacks are dealing with a bout of injuries right now, but fortunately nothing too serious.

Dominique Reed, the speedy senior receiver, rolled an ankle and could miss as much as two weeks, but Bielema said he hopes to have him back by the week of the Sept. 3 season opener against Louisiana Tech.

Freshman T.J. Hammonds from Pulaski Robinson had minor surgery for a small meniscus tear in his knee, and senior running back Kody Walker is in a walking boot.

This is all part of fall camp, and so far the Hogs have been lucky and appear to be taking a lot precautions, too.

Meanwhile, Poyen's Justin Moore, a close friend of Bielema's, has released a new album titled Kinda Don't Care, and he took time from his busy schedule Monday morning for an interview with Justin Acri on KABZ-FM 103.7.

In the middle of talking about his new album, the country music star predicted his Hogs could win eight or nine games this season.

He said they still have unanswered questions, but he said he feels the answers are on the way and that they are in the right hands with Bielema.

Not long after his interview, and Moore is always incredibly polite (he also revealed his house was sadly quiet because his daughters started school that morning), The Buzz put out a news release announcing a new show that will begin Aug. 29.

The mostly sports station announced that Dave Medford and Eric Sullivan will be the hosts of a 1 p.m.-4 p.m. show.

They replace Matt Jones and Trey Schaap, who hosted Overtime for almost four years.

Jones, the wildly talented former Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback, resigned from the radio show in July, and program director Acri said he felt Schaap was needed back in the field reporting.

So Schaap will still be reporting from Razorbacks football games and will continue to work on the station's pregame and postgame shows.

If that isn't enough, he will continue as the radio voice of the UALR women's basketball team and continue his role as an ad salesman for the station.

Medford has been doing voice work the past few years, including some for national companies on television.

He became well known as "Big Dave" in central Arkansas in the 1990s when he co-hosted a show with Tommy Smith on Magic 105, a show that was No. 1 in the market for several years.

Medford is a native of Mena and a graduate of Hendrix College.

Sullivan is from Wickes, home of a well-respected high school basketball program. He played college basketball at Henderson State. He started his TV career as a photographer at KARK-TV and then became weekend anchor for KTHV-TV.

He was named sports anchor at KFSM-TV in the Fort Smith/Fayetteville market before moving to Tyler, Texas, as the sports anchor at KYTX-TV, later adding a radio show.

For the past few weeks, numerous callers to The Buzz have expressed their desire for the station to stay with local broadcasting from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. (and sometimes later). Acri and General Manager Steve Jonsson held their cards close to their vests as they searched for a new team. Acri did share with listeners that he intended to stay with local broadcasting.

The news release said it was a nationwide search, and while most of the employees declared they had no idea what was going on, many did meet at least one person who flew in for an interview from the state of Washington.

The new show will be produced by Joe Franklin, who has been at the station since 2002 and also produces the popular Drive Time Sports with Randy Rainwater and Rick Schaeffer from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
