Rain is expected over much of Arkansas through the weekend, the National Weather Service said, noting some rivers in the state are expected to enter flood stages.

The agency said southern and eastern Arkansas will see up to an inch of rain as showers continue through Tuesday night while northern and western regions will see up to half an inch.

The rain will then initially "be focused over central and southern Arkansas" Wednesday before another cold front brings more precipitation across much of the state. Up to 3 more inches of rain is expected in some some parts of Arkansas over several days.

The weather service said some Arkansas rivers could enter flood stages with the Eleven Point, Spring, Saline and Black rivers likely affected first and the Lower White and Cache rivers rising through the week. Widespread flash flooding is not expected because the rainfall will be gradual, forecasters said.

"A few storms with strong to damaging winds will be possible" during the week, the weather service said, "but any severe weather should be isolated at most."
