Shoplifting report at west Little Rock K-Mart turns up stolen car

Police investigating a couple for shoplifting Sunday evening at a west Little Rock K-Mart discovered they were driving a stolen car, according to a police report.

Katie Shumate was seen putting candy, sunglasses and cosmetics into her purse and walking out of the store, according to the report. Officers investigating the theft searched her purse and also found stolen credit cards. They found her companion, Tyler Mark Davis, was also carrying goods stolen from K-Mart.

Officers then realized the car Davis and Shumate had driven to the store was stolen and had a stolen license plate attached, according to the report. While doing an inventory of the car, police found drug paraphernalia, which Davis said belonged to him.

Davis, 23, of Little Rock was arrested on misdemeanor charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shumate, 23, of Sherwood was arrested on both felony and misdemeanor charges of theft by receiving. She was also charged with theft of property and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
