— Arkansas cornerback DJ Dean is expected to miss playing time after injuring his hamstring earlier this week.

Dean, a senior, "is going to be out for a little bit of time," Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema said Wednesday. Bielema said he does not expect Dean to return by the week of Arkansas' season opener against Louisiana Tech.

The injury is the latest setback for Dean, who was limited late last season and missed some time in the spring with a toe injury. Bielema said he has spoken to Dean about potentially redshirting, especially if he isn't in the Razorbacks' two-deep roster.

"Right now it would be a stretch for him to get there," Bielema said.

"We've just got to get everything right with him. It's well-documented that he's had some time away, but we're going to do everything we can to get him right."

Dean started 12 games last season and finished with 35 tackles and two interceptions. He also returned seven punts for 93 yards.

Arkansas has quality depth at cornerback with Henre' Toliver, Ryan Pulley, Jared Collins, Kevin Richardson and Britto Tutt.

"We've got some pieces there that we can move," defensive coordinator Robb Smith said. "I like the guys that we have."
