Mother, toddler killed when pickup runs off Arkansas highway, rolls over

A 19-year-old Arkansas woman and her son were killed when a pickup ran off an Arkansas highway and rolled over Tuesday afternoon, ejecting them, authorities said.

An Arkansas State Police report identified the woman who died as Heather Walker of Parks. Yell County Coroner Donna Wells said the boy who died was Walker's son and that he was about 18 months old.

Walker and the child, who both died at the scene, were passengers in a Ford F-150 that ran off Arkansas 28 west of Briggsville and then rolled over, ending up on its driver's side, Arkansas State Police wrote in a report. It happened shortly after 4 p.m. in conditions described by police as clear and normal. The report didn't indicate what may have caused the pickup to leave the highway.

The driver, 20-year-old James Holt, and a second juvenile passenger who Wells described as an infant boy were also hurt in the single-vehicle wreck. The extent of their injuries wasn't clear.

The deaths were the 327th and 328th in vehicle crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
