Wal-Mart donating to flooded Louisiana

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and the Wal-Mart Foundation are contributing cash and in-kind donations of $500,000 to flood relief efforts in Louisiana.

The Bentonville retailer and foundation plan to work with the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and governmental entities to help meet the needs of residents displaced from their homes by flooding. Part of the $500,000 donation will include coordinated efforts to send water to the affected areas.

Wal-Mart said it expects more than 1 million bottles of water to be delivered to Louisiana.

Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart Foundation have donated more than $56 million in cash and in-kind donations in response to disasters over the past 10 years, according to the announcement.
