Sheriff identifies woman who drowned in Arkansas lake

A woman who was found drowned at Horse Head Lake in Johnson County last week has been identified as Amanda Champion, 42, of Altus.

A news release from the Johnson County Sheriff's office said the Arkansas State Medical Examiner's office determined the death was accidental.

The sheriff's office responded to a call Aug. 10 that a body was found in the swimming area at Horse Head Lake, the release said. A kayaker found Champion's body, called 911 and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Efforts to revive Champion failed, the county coroner was notified and her body was sent to the medical examiner's office for autopsy.
