Officers responded at 12:56 a.m. to a house at 10915 Mara Lynn Road, west of North Shackleford Road on the city's west side. They found a bloodied Lawrence Chukwudi Ibekwe lying on the floor near the home's doorway, according to a police report.

Ibekwe, 24, had been shot multiple times. Another man, Matthew Alvis, 25, was reportedly applying pressure to a wound in Ibekwe's chest.

Medical personnel arrived and pronounced Ibekwe dead at the scene. His death is the 20th homicide of the year in Little Rock.

Alvis told police that two men had entered the residence to buy drugs, but one of the men pulled a gun and told him and Ibekwe to lie on the floor, according to the report. Ibekwe reportedly refused and fought back. The armed man then fired several shots, Alvis told police.

A woman who was sleeping at the residence, Patricia Morgan, 23, told investigators that a loud noise woke her up and she then found Ibekwe "lying in a pool of blood," the report states.

Police spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said it was unclear whether the men were trying to rob Ibekwe and Alvis. An investigation is ongoing.

The gunman was described as black and 6 feet tall. He wore dark-colored pants and a gray hooded shirt with red lining. The other man was described only as black. A detailed description was not available.

No arrests had been made late Friday.
