CHAMPIONS OF WILDLIFE

3 luminaries of outdoors join Arkansas Hall of the wild

The Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation celebrated its 25th year of honoring Arkansans involved in hunting, fishing and wildlife conservation by inducting three more individuals into the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame. The banquet was Aug. 12 at the Statehouse Convention Center.

The evening began with the Winchester reception, a meet and greet for the honorees, sponsors and members of the foundation. Guests enjoyed appetizers, drinks and a first look at live and silent auction items.

After a barbecue dinner by Whole Hog Cafe, the live auction ensued, offering items including a trip for four to an Arkansas bear den, a Browning gun safe, a stay at the Nature Conservancy's Kings River Deck House and a custom-made knife by master bladesmith (and previous inductee) Jerry Fisk.

Guests were welcomed to the dinner by master of ceremonies Tommy Sanders, who noted the evening's inductees were all game-changers. "All have made a difference in our lives," he said.

Inductees were Rodney Herndon of Hot Springs, president of Xpress Boats; Scott Simon, director of the Arkansas chapter of The Nature Conservancy; and Steve "Wildman" Wilson, formerly with the Game and Fish Commission. The late John M. Olin was named a Legacy Award recipient.

The foundation supports the mission of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, which is to assure the future of the fish and wildlife resources of Arkansas.
