3-year-old Arkansas boy drowns in neighbor's pool

A toddler drowned and another was hospitalized Saturday after they ventured into a neighbor's backyard pool in Sheridan, police said.

Rob Adams, a spokesman for the Sheridan Police Department, said the two cousins, both about 3 years old, left a house on Church Street and walked about 50 feet to the adjacent property where they climbed into an above-ground pool between 5:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Adams said one child died, and the other was taken to a hospital. His condition was unknown Saturday evening.

The boys were under the care of a babysitter, but that person didn't notice the boys had left the house, Adams said.

The boys likely exited the house through the back door, Adams said, adding that there was a deadbolt lock on the door and the babysitter might have thought the boys couldn't reach it.
