Arkansas firefighter hurt after tanker rolls into creek

One firefighter was injured and taken to a hospital after the tanker he was driving tipped over and rolled into a creek beside Arkansas 9 in Van Buren County on Sunday morning.

Ken Brown, the chairman of the board for the Choctaw Fire Department, said the unnamed firefighter was taken to Conway Regional Medical Center. Brown said that, to his knowledge, the driver sustained only cuts and bruises.

The driver was the only firefighter in the 2,000-gallon tanker, Brown said. While he did not know the cause of the crash, he said the tanker rolled over at least once before ending up in the creek. The firefighter was responding to a fire in neighboring Culpepper when the crash occurred at approximately 10 a.m.

Brown said a wrecker service was extracting the tanker from the creek as of Sunday afternoon.
