SOCCER

UCA tops UALR

Jordan Slim’s goal in the 38th minute was enough for the Central Arkansas women to beat UALR 1-0 on Sunday at the Bill Stephens Complex in Conway.

Slim, a freshman, took a pass from Chele Naudin and slipped it past UALR goalkeeper Sara Small. It was Slim’s first career goal for UCA (1-1).

UALR (0-2) had 15 shots in the second half including three that hit off the crossbar.

ASU falls in opener

Southern Miss scored early in the second half and handed Arkansas State a 1-0 loss in its women’s season opener Sunday in Jonesboro.

Katie Richmond scored the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute when she collected a deflected ball off of an ASU defender and kicked it past ASU goalkeeper Kelsey Ponder.

ASU’s Katherine Padgett had a shot sail wide in the 56th minute, while Taylor Schneider and Dana O’Boyle each had shots blocked in front of the net.
