COLTS

Indy adds DB Cromartie

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis fortified an injury-filled secondary Monday by signing veteran cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available when the team made the announcement.

The 6-2, 210-pound Cromartie has 31 interceptions and 115 passes defensed in 10 seasons that started in San Diego. He played four seasons with the New York Jets, spent 2014 with Arizona and returned to the Jets last season. Cromartie’s interception total ranks third among all active players.

Indianapolis needed another cornerback after one starter, Patrick Robinson, hurt his groin in Saturday night’s 19-18 exhibition loss to Baltimore. Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis is considered week to week after an MRI found that he has a sprained ankle.

JETS

Rookie LB injures calf

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets rookie linebacker Jordan Jenkins left practice with a calf injury, the severity of which was not immediately known. Jenkins, a third-round draft pick out of Georgia, is considered a front-runner to open the season as a starter at outside linebacker.

He came off the field midway through practice Monday and remained on the sideline the rest of the session. Coach Todd Bowles said he would know more later in the day after talking to the trainers. One of the Jets’ biggest competitions in camp is for the vacant outside linebacker spots with Calvin Pace not resigned and Lorenzo Mauldin, a third-rounder last year, adjusting to a full-time role. Mike Catapano, Freddie Bishop, Trevor Reilly and Josh Martin are also in the mix.

Tight end Jace Amaro and wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins sat out practice Monday with groin injuries.

Running back Khiry Robinson (leg) participated in team drills for the first time in training camp. He broke his right leg during a game last season while with New Orleans and was signed by New York this offseason.

Fellow running back Matt Forte was a full participant again as he works his way back from a hamstring injury suffered while running on his own before training camp.

RAVENS

Dumervil returns

OWNIGS MILLS, Md. — Baltimore linebacker Elvis Dumervil and receiver Breshad Perriman practiced Monday for the first time this summer.

Both players were on the physically unable to perform list. Dumervil is coming off foot surgery and Perriman has been hampered by a knee injury.

Dumervil participated in a full practice Monday morning, and Perriman joined a non-contact session in the afternoon. But tight end Dennis Pitta remains sidelined with a broken finger, the result of a scuffle with a teammate during practice last month.

REDSKINS

RB Jones sitting out

ASHBURN, Va. — Washington running back Matt Jones will miss the rest of the preseason with a left shoulder injury. Coach Jay Gruden said Jones will be held out of the Redskins’ final two exhibition games after separating his shoulder Friday against the New York Jets. Gruden has “high hopes” Jones will be ready by the regular-season opener Sept. 12 against Pittsburgh.

With Jones out, Gruden said rookies Robert Kelley and Keith Marshall, second-year player Mack Brown and third-down back Chris Thompson will share the carries. Kelley replaced Jones as the top back against New York and could start Friday in the third exhibition game against Buffalo.

EAGLES

Veteran Tulloch signs

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia signed veteran middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch.

Coach Doug Pederson said Tulloch will compete with Jordan Hicks for a starting job. The 31-year-old Tulloch is familiar with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz after playing for him in Tennessee and Detroit.

Tulloch has started at least 15 games in five of the past six seasons.

The Eagles lost linebacker Joe Walker for the season because of a torn ACL.

CHIEFS

Hali off PUP list

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City took pass rusher Tamba Hali off the physically unable to perform list Monday, though the team said he will practice on a limited basis.

Hali had surgery in the offseason on his balky knees, which forced him to miss nearly every practice late last season. He was still able to play in games but hardly looked 100 percent.

Hali has spent training camp working out with trainers, but his removal from the PUP list means he can begin working out with the rest of the team. Still, it is unlikely he will play in the Chiefs’ remaining exhibition games against Chicago and Green Bay.

The 32-year-old Hali played in 15 games and had 6 1/2 sacks last season.
