Teen charged as an adult in shooting

BENTONVILLE -- Prosecutors charged a Rogers teen as an adult in connection with a shooting of a man earlier this month.

Juan Steven Amador-Labarre, 17, was charged with battery in the first degree, a felony, and four counts of aggravated assault, a felony. He was arrested Aug. 14.

He faces five to 20 years in prison if convicted on the battery charge. He could be sentenced to up to six years in prison on each of the aggravated assault counts.

Rogers police were called to a shooting Aug. 13 at 806½ N. Sixth St. A man, whom police identified as Dakota Edwards, had a bullet wound to his left arm and chest area and was taken to Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville, according to the probable-cause affidavit.

Edwards was treated at the hospital and released.

Juan Estrada, who lives at 806 N. Sixth St., told police that he saw Edwards and Amador-Labarre arguing in the driveway. Estrada said a Jeep pulled into the driveway and three or four males got out and began to walk toward Edwards and Amador-Labarre.

Estrada said he heard Amador-Labarre tell the males to get back and then pulled out a handgun and shot Edwards, according to the affidavit.

Edwards identified Amador-Labarre as the person who shot him, according to court documents.
